How to offer mushrooms to babies

There are several ways to offer mushrooms to babies, below are some that I have used with my son, and he absolutely loved it! You should be cautious offering mushrooms on their own as they can be chewy and challenging for new eaters to break down in their mouths.

  • Sautéed mushrooms in an omelet. Cut the sautéed mushrooms into small pieces and add to a beaten egg. Use some olive oil or unsalted butter to coat the skillet, add the egg mixture and let it cook on both sides. Cut into fingers and offer to babies 6+ months.
  • Puréed into mashed potatoes. Using a food processor, mix some sautéed mushrooms to mashed potatoes.

Are Mushrooms Healthy for Babies?

  • Yes! Mushrooms offer protein, most B vitamins, including folate to help fuel a baby’s cellular growth, and minerals like copper, selenium, and zinc – all essential nutrients that children need to thrive. Check this article from solidstarts.com for more information.
  • You should always make sure that they are fully cooked, this recipe is a great one to start!
