Reasons to Love These Strawberry Watermelon Popsicles for Kids
- Hydrating: These popsicles are the perfect refreshing snack to serve to kids on a hot summer day! Watermelons and strawberries contain more than 90% water, making them the perfect treat for summer!
- Easy and quick: Blend all ingredients, and you have a great summer treat that babies, toddlers, and kids will love! This will be your new go-to recipe for a hot day.
- Naturally sweetened: These homemade popsicles are sugar-free and use only three ingredients: watermelon, strawberries, and lemon! They are a great alternative to store-bought popsicles that have high fructose corn syrup and refined sugar. If your older kids think these are too bland, you can always add a bit of maple syrup, and you will still have a healthy frozen treat using all-natural sugars!
- Use leftovers: I always have watermelon at home in the summer, and leftovers go bad quickly! This recipe is the perfect way to use leftover watermelon and avoid food waste!
How to Pick a Good Watermelon at a Grocery Store?
Finding the perfect fruits to blend is the key to yummy and naturally sweetened popsicles!
Find a watermelon that is symmetrical in shape; it can be oval or round, but it should not have irregular bumps. A melon that feels heavier than it looks has more water content, so it is juicy and ready. Avoid melons that are too large but not as heavy as they look. A sweet watermelon will have a large yellow spot from where it sat on the ground and ripened in the sunny weather. Lastly, you want to hear a nice crisp hollow sound when you knock on it.
Ingredients
Here are the simple ingredients you need to make these delicious watermelon popsicles:
- Strawberries: You can use fresh or frozen strawberries. If using frozen, wash them before adding them to the blender to remove any ice crystals. The strawberries will add texture to these popsicles.
- Watermelon: Choose a ripe watermelon (see my tips above). Cut into cubes before measuring and remove seeds.
- Lemon or Orange: I use fresh lemon juice as it is less bitter than lime juice. If you want to taste the lemon, add some zest. I prefer to leave it out and let the watermelon and strawberries be the primary flavors, and so does my toddler! You can also use orange juice or any other citrus fruit!

Storage Instructions
Popsicle molds usually take up a lot of space in our freezer, and when you only have one or two popsicles in them, it is even more annoying! Once your homemade watermelon popsicles are frozen, I usually remove mine from the mold and place them in an airtight freezer bag. I save space and free up the mold to make other popsicle recipes.
You can store these popsicles in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.
