Why Is this Spider Pizza Perfect to make with your Kids?
- Making this pizza together will promote bonding and you can even make it a STEM activity, counting the spider body parts as go!
- You can get creative and make these mini spider pizzas, using a round cookie cutter to cut into shapes before baking.
- You can boost nutrition by adding zucchini to the cheese or by making your own veggie loaded pizza sauce!
Ingredients to make Spider Pizza
- Pre-rolled pizza dough.
- Pizza or pasta sauce: This time I used store bought sun dried tomato pesto. But feel free to use your favorite passata (you may need to add spices to it such as oregano), or make our delicious homemade veggie loaded tomato sauce for added nutrition.
- Black olives: these are perfect to make creepy black spiders. I used Spanish pitted medium size. Make sure you get black ones, there are some that are listed as black but are more purple in color!
- Cheese: I used shredded mozzarella.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425F (220C) or follow your pizza dough manufacturer’s instructions.
- Roll out the pizza dough.
- Spread the pizza sauce on top of the pizza.
- Top with mozzarella cheese.
- Add the spiders to the pizza.
- Bake for about 10 minutes (follow pizza dough’s instructions).
Recipe Notes
- To make the spiders, slice some large or medium black olives in half lengthwise. One half will be the bodies.
- To make the head and the legs, cut each half in 5 pieces, the edges will be heads and the middle slices will be the legs. You need 1 ½ olive to make 1 complete spider.
